I am shocked and disgusted by several things in this post. To think that someone would allow people to eat a cake that has been licked on by their dog is unbelievable, but I am just as disgusted at the number of people who admit that they allow their pets into their kitchen (even if you lock them out when you are doing a cake)
If I went to a restaurant and there were animals in the kitchen I would leave. Allowing a dog or cat in your kitchen is not sanitary PERIOD !
They lick their privates, some eat their own poop it is disgusting.
Health inpectors may not check often, however, if they came into an actual store with dogs/cats inside the kitchen I feel sure that store would not pass inspection !!!

My pets are not allowed in the kitchen while ANY food is being prepared. I even scrub my kitchen, top to bottom before I am to use the table, and or counter tops. My two biggest dogs are put into their crates and the little dog and my cat are shut into other rooms. I would never think of letting an animal into my kitchen especially while making cakes!!!!!!!

This is sick either way. Why would you post something like this even if you were making a joke. I don't get it.
I also hope the bride doesn't belong here as well and put two and two together.

I sincerly hope someone tells the bride and groom or someone that attended this wedding what has happened... This is not something that should be kept in the dark, dogs carry many many germs and deseases and it's just unsanitary.

It never ceases to amaze me how completely lacking in basic sanitary commonsense folks are. Not everyone needs to be ServSafe certified but sheesh.

Cooking disasters happen - you drop something, you leave something out of the fridge that you realize you should have put in....it's a LOT easier to live down saying "you know, I really messed up and I can't serve this" than it is to live down folks getting food poisoning.

OMG. this is disustuing, i cant believe someone would actualy serve this cake to ppl. HOpefully she did b/c she was panicked and didnt want to say "the dog ate the cake" but really that doesnt make it any better. Its super gross, think about the fecal bacteria that dogs probably carry in their mouths and on their face and now think about that face being rubbed all over the cake, ick!!!! I didnt notice if she had posted where she was located, if she didnt its probably a good thing for her. Beware anytime you eat something someone else makes, you just never know!

I just want to say that although I think the OP may have made a mistake in judgement with the wedding cake, that the judgements and horrible things being directed at her have gone on for far too long. The points been made and I am certain that she has learned from this mistake as we have all learned from mistakes we have made, and is probably no longer a member anyway after reading the responses, so going on and on does no one any good.

People don't always use the best judgement in situations with much more serious consequences than dog spit on cake.

I truly hope that this thread gets locked.

THANK YOU to MissT and laurynrn! I first came to this thread thinking there would be a funny story in it, but from the original post being chopped off and THREE PAGES of people flaming the OP, I really do feel sorry for her...

She tried to do something really great for her friends, something terrible happened, she did what she thought was best. Maybe she doesn't live in a place that has a "Corner Wedding Cake Store" where you can just pop in on a Saturday morning and pick up a spare 3-tier cake, I know I don't.

I mean, yeah, it's gross for me to think of someone else's dog licking something I ate, but I know people who will argue that a dog's mouth is cleaner than a human's and that their dog is part of the family and have no problem sharing a slice of pizza with them... I personally think children are horribly unsanitary (always catching colds and sniffles all over), but people would get all bent out of shape if I suggested that home bakers should have special containers for their children... (ok, I was only kidding to lighten the mood- please don't hurt me! )

Thank you MissT!!! Granted the OP didn't used the best judgement here. But I don't think that a one of us on here uses perfect judgement all the time. A mistake is worth it if a lesson is learned from it.

I shutter at the thought of this poor CC'er being ripped to shreds. She made a mistake and instead of lovingly helping her learn a better way to handle her situation we have blasted her.

Like I said none of us fellow CC'ers are perfect. But can I just challenge us all to support each other a little more and not run each other in the ground when we mess up?

Dude, who cares if a dog's mouth is cleaner than a humans or not! It would be just as disgusting if a human licked a quarter of the cake and it was still served to the guests. I don't know about you, but I don't want anybody else's saliva (whether animal or human) on my food. It's gross.


Also, yes, kids do carry germs often. Which is exactly one of the reasons why they aren't allowed in the kitchen when I'm baking or decorating. When someone puts their trust in you, then do your best to deserve it.

I don't have to be baking or decorating to want one of those 'kiddie containers'! After dealing with two flat tires, the kids missing school, therefor no baking time for Mommy (until now ... just in the oven at 11:00 pm), all I can see is a giant jar with my children buzzing happily around inside, and of course a lid with air holes. I love animals, but if I had a pet come anywhere near my kitchen right now, the poor thing would look like a slipper in short order! Though I would never have served the cake, I do admire the OP's patience with her little taste tester ... at this point in my day, I'm really not sure how I would have reacted towards the dog.
I'm tired, I'm grumpy, and I'll be up into 4:00 provided all goes well ...

I think most of you really need to lighten up a bit. Did she use poor judgement, yes. Would I have done this, no. We have all made mistakes or had lapse in judgement. I am sure that is not one of you taht can say they didnt pick something up off the floor and used it or forgot to wash your hands after something and continued working. These are all unsanitary thing. Maybe not as bad as a dog licking a cake, but come on. Lets not tear this women to shreds. She is human like the rest of us. Lets practice a little more tact when trying to express your opinion about the situation.

I cook out of my home,I clean my kitchen down every day with bleach.I have a dog but shes not allowed in kitchen or bedrooms she was trained to know her space...now i helped my friend about 10 yrs ago to do a grooms cake at her shop it was 6 layers tall beautiful choco, strawberrys now she delievered it set everthing up with the decorator it was a out side wedding,well woe and behold the neighbor let his dogs out when no one was looking the dogs ate a large hunk out of the back..the decorateor put flowers in back so it wouldnt be noticed.it was delivered and it wasnt her problem.but they told the bride she said they wouldnt serve from that area. but what can you do it wasnt her fault she was leaveing when they told her the decorater handled it....so any thing can happen she will have to learn from her mistake. she will be ok i too hope she doent quit cc because we are very nice family here and we do help each other every day.

No counter space? If thats the reason couldnt the top of the stove do for just a couple minutes to put in a dowels?

That's disgusting. And for future reference mixed breed dogs are NOT always hypo allergenic! I'm an on again off again groomer and I know this first hand, Ive had soo many people bring in their hypo designer breeds and the little brats would shed all over the place. And even the ones who didnt shed and have hair instead of  fur, have hair breakage. hair breaks and sheds also. That's why if you ask most vets they will tell you truthfully that's there's no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog!

Ok, so why did this get resurrected? Methinks someone's dog licked a wedding cake this morning, and they Googled the subject to see if they can get away with re icing it.
