Hi everyone,

I am still very new, but I bought a set of icing tips recently.

Does anyone have a good basic icing recipe to use for praticing different piping techniques?

Please let me know.

this recipe comes from Toba Garrett's The Well Decorated Cake:

1 cup vegetable shortening
2 to 4 Tbsp water
1 lb confectioner's sugar
1 Tbsp meringue powder

Beat for 8-12 minutes. Store the icing in an airtight container with a plastic lid. It will keep for 2 months. No need to refrigerate. Yeilds 3 to 3 1/2 cups.
