Chocolate Frosting V

It is a cooked frosting that will get to a coating stage if cooked right. This was my Mothers recipe and has been used for as long as I can remember.

Chocolate Frosting V


  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (5 ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup shortening


1 In a saucepan, combine sugar, cocoa and salt. Add milk and shortening. Cook over medium heat until it comes to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool before spreading on cake.
