French Cream Filled Cupcakes

My mom used to make these cupcakes for us when we were little. We thought she was magic because we couldn’t figure out how she got the cream in the middle of the cupcakes. They are still my favorite.

French Cream Filled Cupcakes


  • 1 chocolate cake mix, made into cupcakes (makes 24)
  • Part 1:
  • 5 TBSP flour
  • 1 C. milk
  • 5 TBSP sugar
  • Part 2:
  • 1/2 c butter
  • 1/2 c shortening
  • 3/4 c sugar
  • 1 t vanilla
  • speck of salt


  1. Cook ingredients in part 1 until thick, stirring constantly, Cool Well. Mix ingredients in part 2 on high speed for 5 minutes. Add part 1 and beat on medium speed for 3 minutes. Fill cupcakes with pastry tube from top. Then cover them with frosting.
