Nanna's Buttercream Frosting

I use salted butter and then omit adding salt.

Nanna’s Buttercream Frosting


  • 1 stick salted butter
  • 1 cup crisco
  • 1 tsp clear vanilla
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 1 TBS meringue powder
  • 4 cups confectioner sugar
  • 2-4 TBS heavy cream or water


  1. Take room temp butter and cream with shortening, add vanilla and almond flavorings or one of your choosing…add sugar (cover mixer bowl with tea towel) add meringue powder…mix slowly awhen well incorporated add cream little at a time until you reach consistancy you want….I mix on high for several minues using paddle attachment until it is right for smooth frosting….it will crust and can use viva paper towel to smooth
