Gabe?s Satin Vanilla bean Buttercream Frosting

Several people have asked me for this recipe. This is the most popular frosting in my bakery. It is fluffy, satiny, and DELICIOUS!! It has the great taste and scent of vanilla-it's great to decorate with too! I hope you like it. IT DOES NOT CRUST THOUGH!!

Gabe?s Satin Vanilla bean Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients

  • 6 cups of confectioners? sugar ½ tsp. salt 1½ tsp. vanilla ?crush? (vanilla that contains the vanilla bean, I use Sonoma Syrup Co.-but there are several different types out there-this makes a WORLD of difference!!) or regular real vanilla extract will work 1 cup boiling water (¾ cup on hot days-or if you want a stiffer frosting) 2¾ cup shortening 1½ sticks slightly chilled butter, cut into 1-inch pieces

Instructions

  1. In the bowl of an electric stand mixer stir together:
  2. Confectioners? sugar
  3. Salt
  4. Vanilla ?crush? or vanilla extract
  5. With a whisk attachment, add and whip at low speed:
  6. Boiling water
  7. Whip until smooth and cool (be patient-takes awhile)
  8. After cooling, add and whip until completely smooth (on low):
  9. Shortening
  10. Slightly chilled butter, cut into 1-inch pieces
  11. Increase the speed to medium-high. Whip until light, fluffy, and doubled in volume (10-20 minutes.)
