Lou's Cherry Wedding Cake

I made this cake for Lou’s wedding after she asked for a cherry cake. I took a chance and came up with this recipe. Paired with dark chocolate ganache filling it tastes exactly like chocolate covered cherries!

Lou’s Cherry Wedding Cake


  • 1 box white cake mix (with pudding), prepared as box instructs
  • 4 Tbsp. cherry preserves
  • 1 Tbsp. cherry flavoring


  1. Preheat oven to 350*. Grease and flour two 8″ round pans.
  2. Combine all the cake box ingredients along with the cherry preserves and flavoring. Mix per box instructions and pour into prepared pans.
  3. Bake immediately for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the middle of the cake comes out clean.
  4. Optional: Once cakes have completely cooled, tort, fill, and frost with whipped dark chocolate ganache for a chocolate covered cherry flavored cake.

I'm pairing this with a chocolate cake center for a wedding cake next weekend. I hope it turns out good! Sounds delicious! Taste test tonight. Can't wait!!!


i used the cherry ratios with my dream cake recipe and it was AWESOME! thanks so much for sharing this recipe! any suggestions for getting the color RED (rather than pink) without changing the flavor???? i'm doing this as a wedding cake next weekend... thx!


I just made this as a test for a 3 tier cake I'm doing next month and it came out extremely crumbly , any thoughts of how to fix this because I loved the flavor.


Joppa what is your dream cake recipe.... Just to see which one works best for me... I love cherries and it sounds really good and would love to try it....thanks both of you...have you tried the Wilton red no taste color ..you can add it to cakes..
