Chocolate Malteser Cake

If you like the combination of chocolate and malt – you will love this cake which rises really well and taste delicious.

Chocolate Malteser Cake


  • for the cake:
  • 150g soft light brown sugar
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 175ml milk
  • 15g butter
  • 2 tablespoons Horlicks
  • 175g plain flour
  • 25g cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspooon bicarbonate of soda
  • For the icing:

  • 250g icing sugar
  • 1 teapsoon cocoa
  • 45g Horlicks
  • 125g butter
  • Maltesters to decorate


  1. Preheat oven to 170 degrees. Grease and line 2x 20cm/ 8inch tins.
  2. Whisk eggs and sugar together. In a pan, heat milk, butter and Horlicks – add to egg and sugar mixture. Fold in flour, cocoa and leavening agents. Bake for 25 mins.
  3. for the icing – blitz all the ingredients in a food processor.
  4. cool cakes on rack when ready and sandwich together with half the icing. other half on top and decorate with maltesers.
