Died and Gone to Heaven Chocolate Frosting

I got this recipe from a diet cook book that had 1 decadent recipe in it…this is the icing for the cake
Super delicious and not too hard to make..a couple of requests for this so I am posting it

Died and Gone to Heaven Chocolate Frosting

  • 1 1/4 c granulated sugar
  • 1/3 c unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 c whipping cream
  • 6 oz (170g) semi-sweet chocolate squares
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 pkg (8 oz/250g) light cream cheese, softened
  • 1 c butter

  1. Whisk together sugar, cocoa and whipping cream in a med. saucepan. Cook slowly over medium heat whisking constantly until mixture comes to a gentle boil. Cook 1 minute. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate squares until meleted. Stir in vanilla…let cool to room temperature
  2. In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and butter on high speed of electric mixer until smooth. Add cooled choc mixture and beat on med speed until well blended. Refrigerate frosting until desired spreading consistency is reached, about 1 hour..Important! Don’t let it get too firm or you won’t be able to spread it.
  3. Note: I used it after 45 min in fridge but should have left it the hour..it is softer than bc but after it is iced, it remains nice and glossy and will harden on the cake if you put in the fridge. Enough frosting for a 9 x 13 filled and frosted (but no borders or decorations)
  4. Says in the book “trust us, you do not want to know!”
