Green With Stripes

Green With Stripes on Cake Central

Three tiers covered in green fondant (I haven't had much experience working with fondant, so it was a challenge!). Chocolate fondant horizontal stripes (not very even - argh!) and chocolate fondant leaves.

Any tips for how to get the stripes more even would be greatly appreciated!

Very pretty! I like Wilton's Ribbon Cutter and Embosser set to cut strips of fondant. It's about $15 but, you can get it for less with the 40% off coupons.

I just read a tip on the CC forum where you cut the stripes on wax/parchment paper which is also cut the same size; that way you can handle the stripes without them stretching or can even roll them up and unroll them as you go along. Haven't done it myself but thought Hmmm! Sorry, I don't remeber who gave the tip or I'd give credit! Pretty cake!

Very pretty...these stripes are hard to do - in fact all stripes are hard! LisaMS shared a good tip, I like to use something more sturdy like a placemat from the dollar store. Another idea is to make a level mark around the cake with dental floss or something for a guideline, cut your stripe, gently coil it up, take it to the cake and uncoil using the guideline mark to keep you straight

I think it's really pretty! I saw someone post once that they used a laser leveler, which I'd never thought about before. I guess you could set it up to be the height you wanted the stripe to be around the cake and then line the stripe up with the laser mark.. If anybody tries this let me know how it goes! :)
