Green And White Graduation
This was the graduation cake I had today. School colors were green and white. Client was shades of green with polka dots and accent of pink. I made the pearl curls with fondant on floral wires. The graduation cap & tassels were made from fondant also. Flavors were all Swedish butter cake; top 2 tiers were chocolate IMBC filling and bottom was strawberry IMBC filling. Served 50.
forgot to add - "AMANDA" was made with royal icing.
what a beautiful cake! What gauge was the wire that you used? The topper is just perfect as well...
Flawless!!!
Just beautiful! You did a really awesome job- Your client must have been VERY pleased!
I think the wire is 18 gauge - paper covered

Perfection! How did you insert the wires to hold them in place and not rip through the cake?

Beautiful. A favorite for sure!
Very pretty! I like that its not the typical cap and gown cake.
Hey ladies - thank you all for the wonderful comments! I'll try to answer most questions for you now. The cake sizes were 5, 8, and 11. The floral was was 18 guage and they were inserted into the cakes behind the borders. the wires were pretty long and went almost to the board, so they did not pull on the cake. They were also inserted as straight as possible. The cake recipe is from The Perfect Cake book. My husband got it at William Sanoma. Hope this answered your questions!
Very professional and downright gorgeous!
I know many people have commented, this is one of the most well done cakes I have ever seen. This is the type of work I have been stiving for in myself. Wonderful job! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
I was just wondering was the cap fondant? How long did it take to dry?
ChristianDonovan - yes - the cap was made from fondant. I try to make them 2-3 days ahead of time, them assemble the two pieces before adding the dreaded tassles. Thank you for the wonderful compliments. I work really hard on my cakes and it's so nice to have other decorators comment on my work.
