I used a combination of edible markers and thinned wilton gels for paint.

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone. It's great to hear. No, Mandze, I did not do the characters freehand. I wish I was talented enough to do that! I rolled the gp thin enough to see through and then traced over a picture.
