Dual Birthdays
Single tier whimsy-type cake, for my 79-year-old father and 15-year-old niece whose birthdays are 2 calendar days apart. Doctored WASC with vanilla caramel liquid creamer and white chocolate mousseline buttercream from Rose Berenbaum's "The Cake Bible". Next time, I will use Kahlua in the icing since everyone said it tasted like cappucino, so now I have a new flavor to offer! Yummy!
I love the colors and the design! I also love how the handwritting goes with the design! Great Job!
cute cake! i love the square swirl design! how do you get the cake to slant so much?
Very nice. What size cakes did you use?
Thanks for the nice comments, everyone! The writing is based on a computer font called "Curlz MT" (I think). I like it for lots of "funky" cakes, and cakes for those 'tweens and younger teens. And the square swirls just seemed to make sense here.
It doesn't seem possible, but this was a 6" layer and 2-7" layers. All three cut with a slight slant as if I were torting them, then the "top" of each layer was turned a bit to exaggerate the tilt angle. If it doesn't make sense, PM me and I'll explain further. I saw this trick somewhere here, but I don't recall whose ideas this was; it works well for me.
Very cool and your writing in perfect :D Another favorite for sure
I really like it. It is beautiful with the colors and everything. The kind of cake I want to make!
very nice cake..I have a funky design cake to do soon..so will add to my favorites.. How did you get the font design on the cake I guess what i'm asking is how did you transfer that font to the cake?
This is neat. Love your lettering.
what tip did you use for your font?? I love this cake...going in my favs!
I believe I used a #2 round tip for the lettering. I use this font a lot, so I can't tell you exactly how to go about it other than to find a great-looking font on your computer, and print out all the letters, both upper and lower case. Then study those letters and work from that. I do mine freehand, but whatever works for you is okay! :D
I love this cake. Did you have to put any dowels in it to keep it from sliding?
No. I just split the tiers, but not on a completely straight line ... instead, the cuts were on a slight angle, then I turned the tops just a bit each time I stacked another layer on top of what was on my plate. That's what helped to make the angle, and I could control how "tipped" I wanted the cake to be. I think it worked well, and I now have an order for a 2-tier whimsy cake for a woman's 43rd birthday next week. I'll try to post photos when I'm done! :)
