Saltwater Fish Cake With Red Snapper And Speckled Trout

Saltwater Fish Cake With Red Snapper And Speckled Trout on Cake Central

I spent 3 days working on this cake. I have discovered that New Orleans humidy does not support fondant stuff sticking up out of a cake!!! I had to redo everything twice - the second time with wires thru everything. The cake had so much stuff on top that it collapsed slightly in the front.

Awesome job, I love this cake. Very creative concept, showing fish under water with no water! Excellent 8O :o

I'm speechless!!! This is best fish cake I've seen. Super great job would never know that you had problems. Saving to fav - but I'm afraid to show it to my DD or I'll be asking you for instruction. :P

It just amazes me what people come up with! Are the fish straight fondant or mixed with gumtex or gumpaste?

Just fabulous! How did you do the fish? I am going to be doing some later and would like help, please. Wouldn't know you ever had problems.

I agree with all the other comments--"awesome, speechless, fabulous.." . Please tell how you did the fish--how did you get the scales? TIA

Wow. Thanks everyone for your compliements. I didn't expect such a reaction. The fish were not really that hard - just time consuming. I started with a picture printed from the computer about the size I wanted the fish to be. I then carved their bodies out of green floral foam so that they wouldn't be so heavy. I then cut out each side from fondant (no gumpaste or anything). I used the pic to cut fins and used a straw to make the scales. Painted with Wilton colors and a brush.

The cake didn't collapse in front or have you ever seen the ocean without a bit of movement? To me it looks as if it was meant to be like that, a bit wavy, certainly gives some more life to this awesome cake. if that is at all possible

This is by far one of my favorite cakes I have ever seen. I too live in the south and the humidity takes it's toll, but not on this one. You did a great job. Awesome detail. :)

The fish are absolutely stunning, as is the incredibly lifelike seaweed and coral and shells and and and....Love the bubble edge on top, the terrific sign, and yes I would have never guessed the cake collapsed a bit; I would have asked you how you got it to look like waves in the front :)

HA!!!! Yall are making me laugh about the front of the cake looking like waves!!!!! Yeah, Yeah I meant to do that!!!!! :)

WOW! I wish I had a broader vocabulary so I could express myself!! This is so amazing! How did you support the fish? I love your design. Thank you for sharing!!!

on

Stupendous!!!!!!! Sorry but all the other words have been used. This is the first cake going to my favs. list. this cake just blew me and my family away. :)

on

Beautiful, I know you were mad about redoing everything. I live in Ga so I understand humidity, but you did such a beautiful job.

on

Great Job! What did you use to suspend the fish? How did you get the seaweed to be firm like that? It looks like the bigger ones have dowels thru them. Again you did an amazing job.

fantastic modeling. its very realistic. i especially love the yellow in the mouths and the ridges and lining of the faces.
