A Family Affair!

A Family Affair! on Cake Central

I created this wedding cake for my friend. One of the character's is her sister and the smallest children are her niece and nephew. The older children belong to the groom. They hope to make an addition to the family very soon. This was great fun to make and attracted a lot of attention from the wedding guests. I hope you like it too.

These wedding cakes that I have made are based on particular people and were made to specification....with a little bit of "me" thrown in. However I will be creating one like this for a competition in November and the characters will be out of my head. I can't wait to start on it. I'll put it onto this site at the end of the year.

For the eyes, I cut circles of white paste using a No. 3 tip and flatten slightly and glue into position. I then cut circles of black and flatten slightly but not as much so that they are a bit smaller and glue in position in whichever direction is suitable. I paint the lashes and brows with paste colour and alcohol and put a dot of white onto the eye for light reflection. (powder colour and alcohol)

I'm amazed at the details in your figures! Each one has a personality of it's own! In addition to the figures, the tiers under them are very clean and smooth and I love what you used for the borders! Outstanding work!!

I have been creating cakes for the last 3 years and I am self taught. I live above a little shop which I had the opportunity to purchase 4 years ago. I have turned it into a studio and opened my business in May 2004 when orders from friends of friends began to take me over! I have no qualifications but I have gained 2 Gold Awards for entering an annual national competition. My website is www.lorraine-icingonthecake.co.uk if you would like to see more of what I do.

The hot tub was an original design by Debbie Brown who is my idol I have to say. I have met her and I know she doesn't mind me adapting her ideas. The only pictures I will post on this site though will be my own ideas.
