I made this cake for a surprise luau party for my husband's 30th birthday. i wanted the cake to follow the hawaiian theme, and decided to try out making hibiscus flowers with royal icing, and stamens of gum paste. I didn't quite have enought time or icing to finish out the cake with a nice border, but it did come out well and my husband was very pleased and surprised.
