Naked Rapunzel Tower

I am doing a naked wedding cake this summer, so thought I'd do some testing before hand. I did this for my nieces 5th birthday. This cake needed more layers but I ran out of time. It ended up a bit dry as I had to make it several days in advance (I was leaving town). I have since learnt there are tricks to keeping it moist longer and will apply these tips when it comes to the wedding cake.

Anywho...this is a basic white cake dyed purple, with a cream cheese buttercream dyed pink. I layered the buttercream, then made a dam and made a layer of fresh strawberries followed by a thin cover of buttercream before adding the next cake layer. Too many decorations for the short cake were just a store bought fondant. The braid was over 3 ft long and, in hindsight, not something that should be made days prior to decorating as it kept breaking when I was trying to wrap it around.

The tower itself is rice krispy with skor toffee bits. The wood accents and purple roof were made of modeling chocolate (butterscotch chips for the wood, vanilla dyed purple for the roof).

I learned a lot by making this cake, and overall it turned out nice. I forgot to take pictures before I rushed out the door, so sorry for the bad pictures. It looked so much nicer in person :)
