My Beautiful Failure

This cake, the exact design and all, was made twice. This one in the picture was put together in 6 hours, after the first collapsed onto my dining room table. I think this was my best cake I've made so far. Unfortunately, between taking the pictures, boxing it up and transporting it to the client, it collapsed again. I was devastated and so was my client. I gave her a full refund and offered another future cake free of charge, in an effort to gain her confidence in my ability. That's all I can do. I've learned a valuable lesson, the hard way. There was also a beautiful cross I made to go on the top. I didn't get a chance to take a picture of it. Luckily it wasn't damaged since it was boxed separately and I was able to place it on top of the 6" tier which wasn't too badly damaged.

My support system was not sufficient. :-( The dowels were too thin and I didn't use enough. I've since gotten some great advice from other CC'ers, which I plan to test out using the same exact cake and filling, etc.

Oh, it was so pretty!  I know it must have been such a heartache when you opened the box.  Glad you're willing to get back on that cake horse and ride again!
