Duck Pond Cake

Duck Pond Cake on Cake Central

My first themed cake! The customer wanted it for a friend who has just finished chemotherapy and really likes ducks (and other birds). The ducks are made from royal icing, the bulrushes are made from spaghetti and royal icing, and the green leaves are made from toothpicks and royal icing. Top and sides are done in buttercream icing. The cake is chocolate with chocolate filling.

I used tip #12 for the adult ducks. I kind of followed the directions from the Wilton website on how to make chickens but adapted it. I first made the bodies by using a lot of pressure, then decreasing it as I pulled out for the tail. I used tip 12 for the head as well, first piping upwards and then out. I used tip 6 for the white around the neck and the bit on the tail and tip 1 for the eyes. I did the beaks using tip 352 holding it so the opening ran vertically. The baby ducks were the same but with tip 6
