Valentine Birthday Cake

Valentine Birthday Cake on Cake Central

This cake was for a 17 yr old young lady. I struggled with not making it too childish or to mature. She was happy with it. Chocolate cake with choc ganache filling, buttercream icing. Comments appreciated.

Really cute! The only suggestion I may have is to try to keep the seams in the back. I see a fondant seam on the top band. That would be the ONLY thing I could suggest. Really cute cake!

You should have entered this in the contest. How did you get the icing to look so shiny? Is the topper hand made? I also like the way you matched the cakeboard to the cake color used. Well done!

I love this cake! the cake plate, is it glass? great to have the wording off the cake makes the cake so elegant.

Thanks for your comments. The trim is fondant. The icing is buttercream. And the plate is wood covered with foil then covered with royal icing. I did make the top. The one thing that really bothered my was the buttercream shells around the bottom. I should have done a fondant border but I wanted to cover the cake board and really was running out of time. Also, I slanted it by sitting the cake on a 1 inch styrofoam wedge.
