Thanks everyone for your lovely comments - very encouraging. The smaller ducklings are modelled from fondant- I used one of my daughter's bathducks to copy. The base was an oval and the head just a ball, the wings and beak are attached separately with royal icing. As for the smooth icing I have learned that there are almost no mistakes that can't be covered with more icing - hence the bow and the bubbles!!!
