This was my mother's 80th birthday cake (7/25/10). It is a vignette of her breakfast table (fondant decorated in woodgrain) ~ her morning crossword puzzle (printed frosting ordered online) which has an advertisement that includes her wedding photo and an actual crossword puzzle we created from her life's experiences; a pencil (made from fondant); a half a cup of black coffee (created with rice crispy for some shape, gumpaste for actual cup and gel for the coffee); a plate with her morning breakfast of three donut holes (created with gumpaste and actual donut holes); a birthday card (created with gumpaste and a piece of waffer paper); and notes from her grandchildren (written on waffer paper and food coloring markers). EVERYthing is edible except the support inside the birthday card.
