Tiki Hut

Knock-off of a tike hut shown on Ace of Cakes.....Cake stand base was 1/4" plywood with 1 inch dowel rods screwed into base. PVC pipe was cut to go over dowel rods. PVC was then covered with 50/50 gumpaste/fondant. Tiki designed was carved out using clay carving instruments. Cake was iced in buttercream then gumpaste/fondant panels were used to cover sides. Edges were faux bamboo that was glued to the edges using gumpaste glue. Top of tike hut was carved styrofoam covered in gumpaste fondant held high above the cake using 1/2" dowel rods. Tiki hut panels and top were marked with a knife to resemble thatch then painted with yellow and brown to achieve the look. Flowers and flip-flops were also made of gumpaste/fondant mixture. Crystal brown sugar was used to make the "beach" area to finalize this design.
