Good-Bye Student Teacher

Good-Bye Student Teacher on Cake Central

DD's teacher asked me to make a cake for a "good-bye" party for the student teacher they've had since January. She had no design ideas. I thought it'd be cute to make it look like the kind of paper they always use...with an area for drawing and an area for writing. The picture and writing are meant to look childish and the sparkly apples on the sides just seemed like they'd be fun for first graders! The cake is a 9x13 w/ BC icing and fondant apples. Critique Subgroup Member: Ahhhhh, it's so cute. Very clever idea. It's probably the photo, but it looks kind of bulging at the sides, but that certainly will not be noticed by the kids of the student teacher. I'm sure she will LOVE it!!

Critique subgroup member: Ahhhhhhh I adore your hand designed drawing. Your lines are pretty straight this is one case in which the handwriting can look like handwriting! Too bad about the smudge on the sun and word "We'll", but overall you captured the design well. Your childlike drawings are adorable and very hard to do as an adult - right? Well done!!!!!

I love this. My daughter is finishing her student teaching and graduating on Mother's Day and I would love to pull this off as a graduation cake. I would like to know any tricks you used to get to lines so nice and straight!

Critique subgroup member: this is one of the most original and adorable designs I have seen in SUCH a long time!!! I adore it. Absolutely adore it. From a critique stand point, I see the couple of smudges, but I think it all goes together in the overall cuteness of the cake. Great work!!

critique member: this is such a cute idea! I wish there was a better angle? I can barealy see the apples.other than a few mishaps with the black (and I am not sure what you used for the board) the board could've been a wraped a little tighter...this is a really cute cake!

Critique subgroup member: This is a great idea! It looks just like the paper my son uses for grade 1. Even the smudges look authentic of a child in grade school. The only thing I noticed on the 2nd pic was that the icing could have been just a tad smoother on the sides. Love the apples, overall a great idea and a very cute cake! :D

Critique Subgroup Member. Great job! You hit the nail on the head with design...looks like a young student's work...even the smudges. I might have tried to brighten up the board a bit.

Critique Subgroup member: I love this cake! Very original! I think the smudges even make it look like it was a 1st graders drawing! :)

Critique subgroup member: This is FABULOUS!! Such a creative and heart-warming design. With the side bulging: I think you just needed to trim the cake a bit to get it more square/straight before icing it.

critique subgroup member: very cute and original idea! your icing is perfectly smooth on top! wish I could see the apples! your cake board should be bigger. general rule of thumb is 2" bigger than the cake! overall great cake and super idea!

critique group member: Love this idea and it's too cute!! Wish your cakeboard would have been different and maybe the border extended out, but I'm loving this idea!!

Critique Subgroup Member: Simply precious!! I'm not going to critique this one because I believe that based on your theme, I would tell everyone it was supposed to look like that!!! This is truly a cake from the kids! Excellent work ;-D

Critique group member: Cute! It really looks like a child did it! It must have been hard letting go of the normal perfection standards.
