This was a last minute cake and a pain in the neck to frost. I baked it in a 4â flower pot with no problems, but my buttercream did not crust. Then, I couldnât pipe a straight border for the lip of the pot no matter how many times I tried; hence, we have a ruffle top that was put on just 10 minutes before the customer arrived. UGH!! The flowers are royal and the leaves gp. I am a Critique Subgroup member, so all comments welcomeâ¦Thanks.
Thanks everyone for the comments! Tigabird, I PM'd you on how I did the baking..very easy. Cakemommy, I used the big rose petal tip for the flowers. I was so at a loss as to what violet leaves looked like, so I winged that (found them later online and saw the fuzzy, veined look). THANKS everyone!
Critique Subgroup Member: This is adorable! You handled your adversity very well. I LOVE the board and will likely use that technique myself some time. The ONLY thing I can find that's not perfect is that it looks like the ribbon was either a little too wide for the board and scoonched up on the front left side. Really good job, Marianne. I LOVE IT!!
Well, I have to say, for all the things that you think went wrong, I don't see them at all! Your picture caught my eye right away on the home page and I think it looks fabulous. I bet the customer just loved it too. Great job in my opinion!
critique subgroup member: AWESOME cake! your terra cotta color is perfect! and your cake board is a great touch! the only thing that sticks out for me is the "string" for the to and from card is a bit thick, it actually even cuts into the pot border, and though I am not up on this type of flower (african violet I think???) to me the leaves look a bit plain and untextured??? but overall, I love this cake!!
I think it's precious. You actually baked this in a 4 inch pot? What are the instructions for that? I'd love to try something like this.
critique subgroup member: Well, it might have been a PITA, but it turned out beautifully. I see what you mean about the edge around the top of the pot, but I gotta say, I like what you did there. The flowers look great. Your leaves could have maybe used a little more veining, but they're great as they are. This is truly a super cake. Be proud...your PITA is a masterpiece.
Love the cake!! love the flowers ALOT!
Critique subgroup member: this is my favorite kind of cake because it really shows off ones talent when they have to 'save' themselves from a problem. You pulled this off fantastically!! Your colors are perfect and your flowers are awesome- nice and full. The leaves are perfect as well. Excellent work!
Critique Subgroup Member: This is terrific! I would swear the pot was fondant! The color is perfect. Your violets are very good - maybe a little dust on the leaves to give that fuzzy look? Your board is very creative, though the squares aren't the same size on the right side. I really like this cake - I'm partial to violets!! :)
Critique subgroup member: First off, I have never attempted to make a cake like this so I think it looks fantastic. The leaves look like they could use more veining but I just LOVE how huge the flowers are. What tip did you use for those? You did a wonderful job for doing this as a last minute.
Critique subgroup member: Isn't that funny, the worst cakes we make never look like it to someone else. I had problems with my pot cake also, hottest day of the year and my fondant slid down the cake. This is a fantastic cake your colors are awsome as are your flowers! The ribbon on the board is a bit too big but heck it's out the door - right
Critique group member: Wow! This is so cool! :D The flower pot color is right on and I love the flowers and leaves although I do agree the leaves could use more veining.
critique group member: This was last minute?? 8O This would have took me a couple of days to make!! Only thing I can see is there is a little nic on the corner of the cakeboard, but that's me being nitpicky!! Awesome cake!!
You're being too critical of yourself. It turned out lovely.
Just beautiful! Rich colors, great texture. Thank you for sharing --you are so talented! :)
Thank you!!
Critique Subgroup Member: I understand last minute rush jobs, they're a real challange. That being said, i like the way you tied the board in with the cake! As far as the top rim, call it artistic license! Your flowers are great. It actually looks like a real flower pot. You did a wonderful job, especially in the time you had!!! Great work.
This is wonderful ! Sure doesent look last min ! :)
Is the pot you used a pot meant for planting? Glazed-terra cotta?
beautifull
