Elmo Birthday Cake
Here's my grandson's 2nd birthday cake I made over the weekend. Let me thank ginamig for all of her help, the tips made things go much smoother! This is from the Wilton 2008 yearbook. The bottom is 14", top is 12"....the cake was huge!!! The topper is made from the Wilton Elmo pan using chocolate melts. Thanks for looking!
i absolutely love this cake. you did a fabulous job!!!
Awesome job! I know Jack was excited when he saw Elmo!
WOW! What a great job!! Amazing!! :D
this is really supper cute, great job!
AWESOME!
This is gorgeous , Do tell please
Thanks for all of the nice comments. The head was made with the Elmo pan. I used the red chocolate melts and the white. I had to tint the black, and orange. Use the candy color tints only, if not your candy will not set, thanks ginamig for that! I used two plastic dowels on the back, it will need that much support.
oops, didn't finish. I used a total of 10 plastic dowels in between the layers too and a wooden dowel down the center of both, this cake had to be transported 30 miles. I forgot to mention I used buttercream, the only accents that are fondant are the hands and the bursts. I made the ball border from thickened buttercream, I had so much left I didn't feel like tinting fondant! I was tired  Let me know if there are any other questions!
What a great job!... it looks absolutely perfect. Im sure he was "tickled" haha
i absolutely adore this cake. this is a must try!!!!!
This is fantastic!!!
Wow!!! So amazing. I never would have thought to make the head like that. What a neat idea.
You did it exactly like the book. Great Job! I plan to do this exact cake myself. Let me know of any tips that would help me. Please.
I love the idea of elmo head. I would love to try to make this cake, how thick is the elmo head?
The Elmo head is probably 1 1/2 to 2 inches thick
