Purple Princess Castle Cake

Purple Princess Castle Cake on Cake Central

This cake was on the front cover of the Wilton 2008 Yearbook. I was asked to make it for a 4 year old's birthday. It is a 10" round on bottom and 6" round on top. I used the Wilton castle cake set for the pillars. They are decorated with royal icing. The cake is iced with buttercream icing and the flowers are made from fondant.

I made this cake over the course of several days. It takes many hours to ice all of the towers and make all of the flowers. Allow plenty of time!

I made this cake for my daughter's last birthday. I colored regualr sugar with icing color. You have to do little at a time, put it in a zip lock bag then with a tooth pick color the sides of the bag and rub til the surgar is all cover in the color. It worked out great , if that helps anyone. By the way this cake looks great!!

I used not quite two bottles of the cake sparkles. I had to do pieces one at a time. I put the royal icing on and then the sparkles. I have done this cake several times now and I have found that it works best to roll the cones in the sparkles in a bowl while the royal icing is still wet. You have to do it quickly, but it makes for a nicer finish and smoother icing. I have also used white sugar (and other colors). They make for a beautiful touch as well. But I still prefer the sparkles!

I made the flowers last night. It is definitely time consuming. I guess I better get started on those towers! Thanks.
