Chocolate Cake For Lane on Cake Central

8" white cake with chocolate buttercream icing. Although the stringwork is not perfect, this was the first time I've ever been able to do a good job on it. I'm pretty excited about that. All critiques are welcome.

Critique Group Submember: Oh yummy.....Love the board!!!!! Hint for stringwork - to get perfect stringwork every time you measure around the top of the cake where you want to start and end your strings using the Wilton plastic matt thingy and make your marks, then you measure from the board up and make a mark on your cake where the lowest point of the droop for each line. I will be happy to make a tute on this and new stuff on lettering if the group would be interested. Other then that your cake is perfect!

critique group member: My mouth is watering...I am not kidding! This cake looks so delicious. Your stringwork looks really good to me. I notice tiny inconsistencies in the bottom border and the writing might be a bit too small for the cake, but truly, those are picky picky little things. This is a fantastic cake! ;-D

critique group member. I love how clean and elegant this looks. I think your string work is fantastic. The only thing I see is that the bottom border "beads" look like a few are a bit bigger than the others. So hard to do I know !

I tried doing the reverse writing on this by printing the words backwards on paper, placing parchment paper on it, piping over it, and then flipping it over and pressing it onto the cake. It's not great but I also made a cake for my DH for his birthday and freehanded the writing. It's really pathetic :lol: .

Critque group member: Very pretty! And yummy looking, too!! Your bc is perfectly smooth, the shells look great. I've never tried string work, but I see nothing wrong with yours! Great presentation...cake board is very clean looking and appropriate to the cake!

Critique Group Member: Beautiful and wonderfully designed. The stringwork in the front is perfect - maybe a bit off on the rightmost loop (but I couldn't do any of these!). The cake is very elegant looking (yep - great board) and is the mark of a true professional.

critique subgroup member: beautiful cake! exceptionally smooth. The top border is great, nice and even shells! the bottom border doesn't seem to flow smoothly, it seems to pop out at each shell. I think the top could use something, looks a bit bare. Overall, awesome work! I had to dig deep to find anything wrong!

critique group member: I think there's a difference between critiquing and just looking for something to not be perfect. This cake is excellent. Great string work, great smooth BC, your lettering is clean and even, and it looks like the knife would just melt into the cake like 'butta'. Wonderful job.
