What don't I love?? It's perfect! The design, the colors, the style, the precise execution... Everything about it is gorgeous.. I might have chosen a lighter background for photographing to better show it off.. Going to my favs now...

Constructive criticisim? Umm... I'll have to get back to you on that. This is a very cool cake. Seamless, flawless. I too like how you blended the blue and black, very clever. Just an overall great design.

I love the 2 tone on the fondant and I love your clean lines on this cake. The only thing I don not like is the 13. I dont like the gold coloring on it, I would have liked it black. But that is my opinion. You are talented and this is an awesome show of that talent.

cakesbylj and 2sdae, thanks for those suggestions! i agree- i didnt have good lighting on the photo and on the 13- i looked everywhere for black glitter, but couldnt find it. it was dipped in orange glitter which looked a little better in person plus once it was on there, it was kind of stuck. if anyone knows where to find black glitter for future reference, i'd love to know. thanks again.

Mydaughter is with me and says she likes the pumpkins a lot! I really like the angle of the cakes and blue and black together. The moon really ofsets that cool cat. Terrific!

I love the black and blue and agree with all the other compliments - it is flawless!! Did you buy the black pre-colored?

on

i also absolutely LOVE your cake!!! your sculpting has such clean lines... and the satin ice looks like it was vaccuum sealed onyo the cake... absolutely perfect!!!! 8O

"vacuum sealed..." haha, i like that. in reality, the satin ice was ripping all over the place, but most of it is on the back side, covered with ghosts!

the black was actually chocolate fondant that i added black color to. since the choc fondant is usually alot dryer than normal, i had to kneed in shortening so that it wouldnt crack, that helped the texture alot, i guess it added shine too- though part of it may just be reflection from the camara flash.

I totally adore this cake! I love love love the way the black comes down into the blue, and the white border really sets it off. Love the whole color scheme, the black and blue look great together and the orange just makes it all pop! Love the flying bats too!! Fantastic job! Straight to my faves!!

This is so unique... I love it!!! I love how you did the blue and black together. Sometimes Halloween birtday cakes can be tacky but this is anything but!!!! GOOD JOB

I think the cake is adorable, you did a really great job decorating it, I like the color combo, and your fondant is smooth. I like everything you did to this cake.

I would also love to know how you blended the black and blue. It looks perfectly flawless! I love your pumpkins!!

thanks everyone for your compliments! pinkbox- i first covered the cakes in blue fondant, then put another piece of black on top. i used a sharp knife to trim where i wanted the edge to be, then i added a white trim, using a clay extruder. the trim nicely covers up any rough edges.

Another stunning cake. I can't really add anything to what everyone else has already said, they've all just summed up so perfectly why this cake is so gorgeous!

on

It's just gorgeous, and a little bit different with the black coming down to a point where the blue starts. Original, yeah that's the word I wanted! I love it.

This is one of the best cakes I've seen - EVER. I absolutely love the layered black on blue fondant. I hope you don't mind if I borrow part of your design sometime because it's awesome!!

It´s fabulous! Colors are great, I think "13" is standing perfectly out, and the "topsy turv" is not off-angle wich I think ruins the view. A real eye-catcher, stunning work! Be proud! :D

What a beautiful cake, congratulations!!!!! The only thing I would have done differently would be to have taken the picture against a lighter background so the bats and cat would pop a little more. However, if you are anything like me you spend a lot of time on the cake so when it's time for the pics you are flat out of time and creative juices.

I agree with everyone - the cake is beautiful!! I especially like the way you've done the blue/black fondant points with the middle one angled differently from the top/bottom ones that are facing the same direction.
