This is an example of why I always make a practice cake first. When decorating this cake, I learned that buttercream icing will melt and become gloppy if one tries to cover an entire cake with stars, and said buttercream may not be adequate to support additional decorations (like the garlands that were sliding down the cake). I used mini M&Ms as ornaments because I knew buttercream flowers would be too heavy.
