I changed my contract recently. I added a paragraph about not being liable if I become sick, or unable to do a cake, acts of God etc....

(Queenie gave me the idea).

Well, I went to the dr today, and turns out I have shingles. So I can't do cakes for a week....Glad I put that in there, now I have an out....icon_lol.gif

Something to think about ladies!

creativecakes,
I hope you get better very soon. I really don't know much about shingles but hear it can be very painful. Thanks for the headsup about the contract, that is some very beneficial info.

lol, that is an adult type of chicken pox that runs across a nerve under the skin.

You must be very stressed out! you usually break out if exposed to the virus or under stress!

Poor baby, feel better!

and it 's painful too! I've heard!

creativecakes, I hope you are feeling well. My dad and my girlfriend had shingles, they both said it was the most painful thing they've gone through. I hope it is not on your face!! (there is a chance of going blind!) Take care of yourself and rest up! I'll keep you in my prayers!!!

My sister got it when her daughter had chicken pox. The doctor gave her a medicine used to treat herpes (she was horrified, lol) and it cleared right up.

Hope you feel better soon!!

I had shingles last April and am still suffering with it. That is my stress signal now. . .the rash went away quickly, thank goodness for Valtrex but the pain still lingers. I hope your's is not as painful as mine has been! I've heard of cases where it lasted a long time. . . several years. My sister-in-law had issues with it for only six weeks.
Good luck, I'll keep you in my prayers!

Oh no! Shingles is nooo fun. I think you never totally get rid of it either. If you get super stressed (good thing cake decorating is so relaxing all the time icon_lol.gif ha ha) you can have another outbreak. My friend feels her big toe tingle when an outbreak is coming on, letting her know to relax and get some meds, but way no fun!

I have a friend who I refer over to in cases that I can't do the cake. For example I am due June 24th and a lady wanted me to do her wedding cake on the 23rd........ ha ha! Luckily I have a good friend who was able to pick it up. I also have a cake on the 7th of July which is awfully close to my due date, AND the ultrasound yesterday showed the 26th instead of the 24th... so there is a good chance she'll be making that cake for me!

If you don't have someone, might be a good idea to make a friendship with someone who you think does about the same quality of work that you can refer to if either of you becomes disabled in some way.......

Ok now you guys are scaring me. I've had the sores since Monday (not realizing what they were). But they aren't that sore. Don't get me wrong they hurt, but not enough to take anything for them. (That said I didnt' take pain killers after my c-section either).

Hopefully the Valtrex clears them up fast, and it won't be a problm.

I was just posting to give a warning to your clients if you have an uncurable disease/virus your not liable for their cake icon_lol.gif

I do have a friendship where I can pass off a cake. I phoned my cake order for Saturday and told her I had a replacement, however the mom was admit that I still do the cake, because she was fine if her son got Chicken Pox icon_lol.gif

Anyone who has had chickenpox as a child can get shingles. Often the blisters radiate out from your spinal cord and encircle your torso or worse. I had it 20 some years ago in college and was lucky, it didn't hurt unless I scratched it. I only had a small patch, but I was backing up to walls to scratch my back. I took megadoses of B-12 and B complex vitamins. It cleared up quickly. The medications available today should make it much better. All they had then was pain killers. I thought it was something I picked up in the school laundramat. The clinic doctor just laughed when I told him where I thought I had gotten it. I had no idea. One of my friend's husbands has had it now for 2 weeks and the meds seem to be working very well. I think his have almost cleared up.

The blisters went away quickly for me but the pain in my side remains. I hope that yours clears up quickly. This is one ailment that I wouldn't wish on anyone!

I worked for a pain specialist and we would sometimes give triger point injections for shingles. This helped a lot I don't know if it was just something that the doc that worked for did. You could ask your doc to see if that is an option.
