I am going to be making a wedding cake for a friend soon. What suggestions does anyone have about using real flowers ontop of a wedding cake? If I decided to use silk, where can I buy them that is inexpensive? I know Michaels and Hobby Lobby have flowers, but I have never really looked much there.

if you want to use real flowers, most decorating store sell the "flower spikes". you push them into your cake and fill with a tiny bit of water, then set the flowers into the spike.

not sure about silk flowers

For silk flowers, try Walmart or even Family Dollar or a dollar store in your neighborhood. You can usually get soem pretty cheap, but still looking good.
