I was given the Wilton 3-tier Cake and Dessert stand for my birthday (wasn't the one I asked for but never got around to exchanging it) at Christmas and just opened up the box to use it and...... IT"S STYROFOAM! What a dissapointment! It's very flimsy and I can't imagine putting anything with ANY weight on it.

It was purchased at Michael's but my SIL doesn't have the receipt anymore- think they'll let me exchange it anyway?

They should let you exchange it for something else without the receipt... they'll give you a store credit and you'd have to spend it in their store icon_smile.gif

I just sold one on Ebay for that very reason. I had used it twice and both times worried that the cakes would fall over.

I got one and used it just for bar type desserts and the thing fell over. I sure am glad I did not use it for a cake!!

I received a few Michaels gift cards for Christmas and went right down and got that stand. I was also shocked to find that it was styrofoam. I had no idea! i got a cakes n more 3 tier party stand instead.

who would pay that much for just styrofoam? Wilton should have to say in the title on the box that it is disposable.

It truly is a horrible stand... I got one too when it came out and used it for a dessert display at a party I was catering. I had to check on it every few minutes to be sure it hadn't fallen over!! The newer 3 tier stand they have is MUCH better...

I received it a year or so ago, but "I made lemonade". There have been no disasters for me with it. There are a couple pictures in my gallery and for my Christmas party, I had all three tiers filled with truffles. Maybe I don't make as heavy cakes?

Don't get me wrong, it looks like a piece of junk. It has saved me in some space issues. I would personally never buy it. It's worked for me, though.

I had a bride request that stand, I didn't know at the time that it was styrofoam, even if it was a dense styrofoam it would be a little more sturdy. I took it out of the box and little bits of foam were just floating around.

At the reception after I set up the cake, they got the bright idea to move the tables around. I was sitting in the back and I was praying that the cake didn't fall over before I made it to the front. I guess they figured out that the thing was flimsy, so they held on to the posts and moved the table at the same time.

Glad to hear that it's not just me that was disappointed. I had asked for the Cakes-n-More stand. Is that one any better? It looks nice. Luckily, my mom had a tiered stand that I just borrowed for the party tomorrow. I am goingn to try to return it. IMy cakes are usually pretty heavy and I wouldn't even think of using this thing.
Thanks

i bought a styrofoam stand (not wilton) and did a 3 tier wedding cake (in photos).. i drapped a piece of sheer material over it and it turned out very pretty.. the stand was very stable.. i'm not sure how it compares to the wilton one.. but on the box it said it was disposable and to use only once.. i guess the styrofoam could become worn out maybe?? i didnt throw mine away.. it seems fine..

Your stand must be a more dense styrofoam than the Wilton stand, I'm glad the bride bought the stand heself. I don't know what she could use it for. It was not stable at all. If you want to take a look it is the Daria wedding cake in my photos.

This is the one we have been speaking of. I can see where it might be okay for light desserts, etc but certainly wouldn't trust it to hold my cakes. I am not usually so negative, and have a lot of good luck with other Wilton products in the past, but this product REALLY is a real disapointment and I would hate for someone to waste their $$.

I give it two thumbs down! thumbsdown.gifthumbsdown.gif

I can tell that the base is styrofoam; is that all that is styrofoam?

Rip-off.

The base AND the 3 stands that hold the cake plates. The ONLY good thing about it is that it comes with plastic cake plates 8,10, and 12 inch, I believe. The plastic tubes that attach the bottom and top styrofoam are very thin and weak also.

I bought that and when I got it home and open the box I couldn't believe it. That much for styrofoam? I took it back. They asked why I was returning it and I told them it was cheap junk.

I really don't like Wilton products. But, sometimes you are just stuck getting them.

Lol. You straight-out said that it was cheap junk?

My dad says Wilton is cheap junk. He says that it's not professional grade. . . icon_cool.gif

of all the wilton things i love are the pans. they bake up the cakes so nicely....i had another set of cake pans that i tossed after because they backed up so horribly...same recipe yes..

but how on earth would wilton think that syrofoam would hold up a wedding cake???? they didnt try it first??? i wonder.

I ordered something on-line called "The Treat Tree"! It looked just like Wilton's cupcake tier stand..that's what I thought I was buying but when it came in the mail I was so excited but then when I saw what it was...ARRRGGGG! LOL!

I have the cake stand that you all are talking about. While I was VERY disappointed that it was styrofoam, I have used it several times and have never had a problem with it being unstable. There is a picture of a wedding I did in my album, these were heavy cakes and it held up fine. I have also used the stand for snack trays at parties I have hosted and it has held up so far. I'm not saying I love it, but it did the job for the $14.99 I paid for it. usaribbon.gif
