Gaudeamus, from the Latin Rejoice. A very special cake, the most special cake I ever made! The special occasion was the investiture ceremony of 7 Benedictine novices, the perpetual vows of three Benedictine nuns and the First Holy Communion of my little rascal. I try to make an elaborate cake to reflect my deep joy... My own daughter is finally among those lovely doves in white veils. The cake had a tier of chocolate cake with chocolate fudge icing...Mother Abbess' favorite, and one tier of honey-beer fruitcake, to please the Brits and Dutch sisters that must be homesick. The cake was covered in fondant and decorated with Lambeth style English overpiping. The details were in fondant, pastillage and dragees. I included the Marian emblem portrayed in our local parish in honor of The Blessed Virgin Mary. The flower in the middle is a Passiflora Edulis, representing the Passion of Our Lord, the beauty of my home country and my daughter's favorite fruit. Praised be Jesus Christ.

Congratulations to you and your family!!

What a magnificent accomplishment you did.  That cake is a wonderful show of skill and talent.   How long did it take you?

Blessings to your daughter… I know she has waited for so long.  God has lead her all the way:)

Thanks kakeladi, my daughter is as happy as can be!... Oh, the cake, that was such an adventure... Half of the cake was done in New Jersey and put into pieces in our luggage, the last half including the piping I finished in Missouri. The trip was done by plane, and the last portion of the road before reaching the Abbey is a dusty rocky road. Yes, the cake was resilient. I did not keep track of the many hours, but I'll guess some twenty something. Oh, the joyful face of the sisters was priceless! I'll probably do it again in two years, when the group of novices will pronounce their First Vows and their white veil will be replaced by a black one. I'll better start gathering strength and courage now...!

Ok…maybe 3 x’s is the charm!! Having big problems trying to post a response. CC keeps bumping me out.

God was certainly with you when you travelled with your cake. Don’t think I could have done this under your circumstances. Truly a magnificent cake.

To be honest, this journey began last year in July when she left for the Abbey. For 14 months we did not see or communicate with her. Sounds cruel but is beautiful to experience how we all slowly detached from sorrow and human feelings and attached more to God. Certainly, God has been by our side from the beginning, and I keep praying for strength for the years to come. After watching the community grow so fast for so long, one can only conclude that only God can provide their infinite joy.

Beautiful!  It looks like it added a special touch to a very special celebration. It takes a special person to commit themselves in total to the lord and his service.  Thank you for sharing the occasion and your amazing cake!
