Opening up another session of FNCC! Everyone is welcome to share what they have been up to this week, post photos of their work, ask for help or provide help if you are able to.
It's been another crazy busy week for me. Pottery classes started back up on Saturday morning, soccer games Sunday and Thursday night and of course, baking. This week I had a poker themed birthday cake and a last minute request from the Chemistry Club to make something for their bake sale. I ended up making cupcakes and using up several differnet colors of buttercream that I had in the fridge. They were happy with them and I'm happy to say they all sold.
I hope you've all had a good week and look forward to seeing what you have all been up to ☺.
Is that the evil cake genius stencil on the casino cake? It looks fantastic! I bet those little white has marks were a blast to put on.
Hi Kelly, I really like your poker chip cake. The poker chips look really real.
Did you use the grass tip and green buttercream for the easter eggs cupcakes?
I bought some Wilton edible grass recently to do the same topper idea and it was useless. It didn't stick to the buttercream or look anything like the picture on the packet. For the eggs I used Jelly Belly ones...some of them are speckled which looks really neat.
You are inspiring me to bake! I have been thinking about making sugar cookies and decorating them with Royal icing to look like multi-colored easter eggs (horizontal striped).
@thecanadian160 I think you must mean did I use a stencil for the cards? They were printed on a sugar sheet (ordered) and then attached to gumpaste.
Ok, that posted all on it's own..... I hit the space bar and next thing I know the sentence posts when I'm not done. Lol
Not gonna lie, the poker chips were a pain in the butt! I'm glad the turned out after all the effort.
@Anneliese671 yes, the grass on the cupcakes was done with the extra green icing from the poker cake and a Wilton grass tip. I tried the edible grass once on a cake and it worked ok but it wasn't the Wilton stuff, it was a brand I found at Winners and haven't seen since.
Off to pottery this morning then home to decorate another cake that is due tomorow and then I need to bake more cakes to decorate tomorrow for Monday. I'm tired just talking about it!
@kstevens your cupcakes are adorable and the poker cake looks amazing. I can feel your pain though... those chips look labor intensive!
I've just put the finishing touch on this dragon cake for my nephew 7th birthday party. I got the inspiration for it on pinterest, the original was made by Casa Cordial Cakes. Each 3 layers of that cake is a different flavor, as in the recipe of the "slutty brownie cake". Bottom is chocolate, middle is chocolate chips cookie and top is cookie and cream. I fill and frost it with brown sugar smbc. I cant wait to taste it!
Love that poker cake!!
I was gifted a chocolate mold that looks like chess pieces. Think that’d go pretty well with a Black & White cake. Still pondering a design.
Ok here are pics from the wedding I did. Definitely learned what I need to improve on, but the bride et al. loved it. MOG doesn’t like chocolate cake and raved over it.
My SIL made the roses for me - buttercream. I love the way hers look, very vintage. Tons of roses, leaves, vines, some fondant blossoms and baby’s breath.
Top was carrot, bride’s favorite.
The two sheetcakes were vanilla and chocolate. One is their monogram, the other has dates (first date, engagement, etc.)
Groom’s cake was a huge hit!! Armadillo digging in the dirt (crushed Oreo), replete with gummy worms!
That was my first sculpted cake and I loved it!!!
I made this cake over the weekend. It’s watercolour on fondant which I really enjoyed. Made me want to take an art course.
@KatyN your puctures are not showing! I cant wait to see your cakes.
@louglou I love your water color! Did you use food color diluted in vodka?
Louglou, how did you get that watercolor effect?!
Fondant isn’t my preferred medium but I’d love to be more proficient at it. My teacher wasn’t good. Any tips? it’s been super frustrating for me.
Let’s see if these photos work!
Yikes, problems posting again. Not sure if i will have 2 posts now
Oh well, long story short (long story was in original post) this is my daughter's request for Mermaid tea and dessert birthday party. She was extatic. I used the sea backdrop and a shower curtain and her old Ariel costume, to also do a "photoshoot" for all her friends (luckily she only invited 5), so the "party favor" was a photo if each girl as a mermaid. This is my daughter:-)
@KatyN great looking cakes.. i wish I could pipe!
@lelekbolek your daughter is adorable. Your cake and treats are gorgeous. Well done!
