I'm making my son's third birthday cake for his party on the 23rd. I'm actually going to make two cakes, one chocolate and one vanilla. The cake is going to be shaped and decorated into Peppa pig and I'm crossing my fingers it will turn out... Anyways I was hoping for some cake recipes that are good for shaping and any and all advice on shaping the cake (ie the process, tips, etc). Preferably something not too difficult as I am a beginner and am sure my toddler will be "assisting" me haha.... Thanks so much in advance.

Are you in the UK? Madeira cake is a very sturdy cake for carving. It’s just like Victoria sponge with extra flour. I think there is a chocolate version of Madeira too.

Cake is easiest to carve when it’s chilled or even partly frozen. Use a serrated knife.

Good luck.
