Beginning home baker here.  I’ve seen basically two types of cake lifter/spatulas: ones with a round surface, skinny handle (like the pizza lifter from Williams-Sonoma) and ones with a square surface, wide handle (like the Wilton).  Anyone know which one is better/easier for lifting or moving round cake layers?  Thanks in advance for your advice!

I have both, eeyore58, a Fat Daddio  roundish lifter with a sturdy handle and the Wilton square one.  I do use both of them, but much prefer the Fat Daddio.  I have old, arthritic hands which aren't as strong as they used to be and the strong handle is a big advantage, especially for removing heavy stacked tiers from the turntable.

I don't do much baking anymore but I have Wilton's sq spatula - in fact two of them - one a bit wider than the other,  as well as the small off-set handle thin spatula.   The same as Sandra I also have old arthritic hands now.   I've used those spatulas for years (over 30 yrs baking wedding & all occasion cakes).  Haven't tried any others.
