I made this for my daughter this week. I carved it from round cakes which was tricky but fun. Covering with fondant was less fun. The back is all saggy and ugly. Then I doodled all over it with edible markers.
@SandraSmiley thanks. The bark is actually almond bark.
@louglou you did an amazing job of carving out that skull and I love the doodling.
@GIGGLEBOX2014 love your cake. The texture on the top layer is perfect.
Gigglebox, that is a beautiful cake! I love the comb you used on the top tier.
Marian64, I am really surprised that the bark is almond bark, but what a great idea!
Thanks! This was for my bf's grandparents.
The comb was 1 out of an 8 pack I received and it may be my favorite! I love the texture combs! The more I looked at the top, I wanted to continue it down the bottom tier. lol
This was my only cake this week. I have my 2nd Icing Smiles cake due the 26th!
I agree, GIGGLEBOX2014, the cake would have been lovely with the comb texture on both tiers, as well.
I like the rosettes, but everyone wants them. I'm getting rosette burn out. =p I like doing different things. With it being my bf's family I could have probably changed it and her not mind, but I wasn't wiling to take the chance. lol
I agree, they are beautiful, and yours are exceptionally well done. I made one cake for us with the rosettes and it was a whole lot more icing than we care to eat. For our (IMike and mine) own dining pleasure, we prefer the new naked frosting or none at all.
Yes! I use much more on rosette cakes than any other cake, and most people do not like that much icing.
I cut the 6 inch top tier today and got 15 slices!!!! With a cake being 5 inches tall with 4 layers that is still a large piece of cake!
I know! The cakes I make for us are usually about 6" tall and we cut pieces no thicker than on of Mike's fingers (average man's fingers).
I've got a photoshoot happening today so worked on the dummy cake all weekend. Also had a seaside photoshoot last week. I'll post pics of both when I get them :) xx
Also, how rude, meant to say I love the carved skull! Very impressive carving skills there! I cheat and use the 3D mold.
Photoshoot was fun this week! Very different!!
