I have been becoming more and more frustrated with finding food safe materials for cake armatures and supports, and flower wires for stems.

I have found food safe tubing available in a wide variety of diameters and lengths and am thinking I could feed the wires into the tubes to make them silicone coated. There also is food safe silicone putty that could applied the the ends.

Has anyone tried this? Does it seem like it might work? Thanks.

Yes, plastic drnk straws filled with melted choco or even just b'cream would be an ideal solution for you.

Ditto -K8memphis and kakeladi, plastic drinking straws are perfect.  I usually stick a piece of fondant of a blob of buttercream in the end to seal it.
