Opening up another session of FNCC! Everyone is welcome to share what they have been up to this week, post photos of their work, ask for help or provide help if you are able to.
Happy Friday! No cakes for me this week but I'll be working on one this weekend to celebrate the last day of classes on Monday. It involved a trip to the hardware store for supplies to build my structure and will be chemistry themed. Stay tuned....I'll post pictures hopefully Sunday night ☺. Hope you've all had a great week and I look forward to seeing your creations!
This week was start of spring term for my husband, Plus my younger son started swimming lessons 2 days a week. Having my husband home different days than the last couple months threw my schedule out the window. I picked up a set of wilton square pans. Plus ingredients to build modeling chocolate, a RKT fake cake layer for my son's super Mario cake, plus I going to try to make gum paste. Since my husband works all weekend its best time to bake/make in our tiny kitchen. I also realized I no longer have a kitchen scale. Who knows where is went too. I hate moving. Any one have a scale they love? I need to have I easy to store. I already am having problems with storage of my cake pans. I think the bigger ones I don't use as often will end up stored in my crafting closet. the problem is its on different floor than the kitchen.
@kstevens can’t wait to see your masterpiece.
@shdvl moving is the worse.
I have a baby shower cake Thursday so I will have something to post next week.

@Marian64 for sure. But my husband agreed I could get lower end scale since I use it a ton. both for baking and food storage in our freezer. So I braved a wind storm with a golf umbrella to head to only store I know sold them here in town. Lucky we have a decent bus system. When I got home I found water on my dining table. Its half of my prep area so lucky I had not done anything other than open the wilton set. I would of had RKT setting on the table if my scheduled tasks were on time. Going to feed my sons then figure out storage of cake stuff and make recipes that keep. So tired of weird weather. We were out in tshirts in 69 degree weather this time yesterday and its 20 cooler and pouring rain today.
working on new stuff again, always interesting to experiment. The basket is a mold by Karen Davies. The wood look is a mat. I'm the first to admit that I'm a fan of deep red flowers. (smiles)

Than you!
@MBalaska that is a gorgeous cake! I am always in awe of your flowers! That is a great price on the texture mat. Just when I say I'm not buying any more cake stuff "just because".....
My cake took a little longer to finish than I thought it would. It wasn't overly detailed but challenging to do. I think it's my tallest standing 3D cake to date standing at 18" with the cake itself being suspended 6" above the board. Today was the last day of classes at the university and so the cake was to celebrate it. Because I work in the chemistry department I wanted it to be chemistry themed. I went with (a periodic table) Iron Man based on a t-shirt design I saw online. The structure I built was based on a Threadcakes entry by özge Bozkurt who made Freddie Mercury. He is vanilla bean cake with chocolate buttercream, mocha cake with coffee buttercream and banana cake with chocolate buttercream. The legs and arms are a modeling chocolate/fondant mixture. I used a little LED light behind a piece of wafer paper for his arc reactor. Acadia Chemistry in written in the Avengers font. One of my co-workers made liquid nitrogen ice cream to accompany and the event was a huge hit with the students ☺
WOW !! that is a fantastic IronMan cake Kstevens!! and you used the Avengers loco in the name also. Great creativity!!
Hi!
@MBalaska your cake is very pretty, flowers are beautiful!
@kstevens wow, what a cake! It must be so stressfull having to transport a cake like this one! You must have real faith in your structure. I think I would have made nightmares about it! (Actualy, I'm sure I would have made nightmares about it!)
@Laetia I did have faith in my structure but still didn't sleep well. My drive to work is only about 20 minutues but the roads are awful and all I kept picturing was hitting a pothole and the whole cake toppling over. When I got up in the morning I decided it was better to be safe than sorry & messaged my co-worker that was doing the ice cream to see if he'd babysit Iron Man on the drive. It meant two trips to work as I hadvto goninntompick him up but the cake arrived safe and sound which was a big relief!
@kstevens wow what a great job. I am sure I would of hit the pothole that sent him tumbling. Glad he got there safely.
