Hi Everyone,
I will be making my first fondant covered birthday cake for a returning customer. She has asked for a small-ish cake (think enough just to feed her small family of 5), like in the bottom tier of the one in the picture (complete with batgirl symbol and fondant beads around the base). I was thinking of suggesting to her a 3-layer 6" round cake and charging about $50 for this. It would be all covered in fondant.
Typically for basic buttercream, I would charge a starting price of $40. She only wants me to make the bottom tier, NOT the top one. It is my first fondant covered cake (for someone not in my family anyways), and I dont want to under/overcharge.
Any suggestions? Am I way off? Just right? I am in Denver, CO if that helps.
Thanks!
HajraK
i think your price is respectable according to memphis standards -- don't know about denver exactly -- but there's the copyright thing too -- no es bueno -- maybe you could advise her to purchase a batman log thing from party city or somewhere
For a 6" round fondant cake, my starting price would be $60. We are in NW FL, not in a huge metropolitan area either. I'm not sure how Denver is price wise but I would assume it would be more then $40. You could shop around and see what other bakeries in the area charge per slice. Then go from there.
Thanks OHaresTstyTrts!
I did end up charging $50 which seemed to be the ballpark prices others were charging in Denver.
