This year, I will be turning 39...the official end of my youth.   Usually, I'm very excited about my birthday but this year, I'm totally depressed.  The rationale side of me says I should be grateful if I'm alive on that day and to go ahead and make the blasted cake but I honestly have no festive ideas in mind.  Maybe a tombstone that says RIP youth.  :(

You are only as young as you feel!!! Make yourself a beautiful cake. You are still very young. I will be 60 years of age next year so you are a young spring chicken as far as I am concerned. Every year I say I am going to make myself a cake and every year I don't do it because I make cakes for every one else all year long. Just enjoy your day and have some fun creating something fun and whimsical!!

Don't worry, be happy as the song goes!! Cheer up and keep the faith!!! You are beautiful no matter how old you are!!!

why not buy something delicious -- i love to go out and get a decadent dessert -- i got this chocolate bourbon bread pudding one time -- holy frijoles it was legendarily wonderful --i talked it up so much both of my grown kids showed up to help me eat it hahaha -- then once i got rum & coke bread pudding -- because i am a coca cola-holic -- sometimes i get the best cupcakes from wherever or custom cookies -- mmm -- we have some lovely bakeries and restaurants -- and this way you have portion control -- where there's not a whole dang cake sitting there begging to be eaten --

i don't think you should make your own cake -- buy something :) and happy birthday!

and as far as the official end of your youth -- i'm 67 -- i'm sitting here eating chocolate chips, never got dressed all day wearing a t-shirt that says "i'll be in my blanket fort...coloring"

the youth thing might not be as evident as it was, but you never really get away from it :) it's never over -- you just keep adding to it --

I understand your depression - and it sucks big time!   Take K8s advice.... who said you have to have a cake - one that YOU make yourself??   Treat yourself to what ever is your favorit of all time dessert.   For me that probably would be chocolate overload ice cream sundae.

And hun, I have you all beat in the age department.......I recently had my 77th b'day........no, I didn't make myself a cake or get the ice cream.  Instead I had a pity party as no one in my small family remembered it :(

New York Cheesecake, Florida Key Lime Pie, Ice Cream sundae, Pink Lemonaid, Hawaii Kona Coffee, (all from the bakery and grocery store) and a nice restaurant to start off the evening.  and don't forget that you can "claim" to be 39 for the rest of your life.

You are still young - I'm pushing 50  :-)  I don't make cake for myself.  I get tired of looking at cake  :-)   I make myself a fabulous Strawberry Rhubarb Pie - Yummy!   I'm a early summer baby and I grow my own rhubarb and it's always ready for my birthday.  Don't be bummed 39 is the new 29.   Have a fabulous birthday and make or buy anything that strikes your fancy.

Hugs  and Best Wishes

remnant3333 You just made the water works turn on.  Truly.  I seldom cry.  Thank you for that, I am truly touched and honored.

K8Memphis chocolate bourbon bread pudding!  That sounds DIVINE!!  I would have had an awesome time sampling that with you! "i'm 67 -- i'm sitting here eating chocolate chips, never got dressed all day wearing a t-shirt that says "i'll be in my blanket fort...coloring"  LMBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO  You are HILARIOUS!!!  You keep adding to it...that's an awesome way to look at it!

kakeladi  If you don't mind my asking--when is your birthday?  They may have forgotten it but the Creator didn't.  Therefore, you are still a very special person in my book.  ; )

MBalaska  Sounds heavenly.  How about claiming 27?  ; ) Well, its kind of hard to celebrate on Christmas day you know?  ; )  But I'll try.

MsGF  39 is the new 29?  Alllright!!!!  Now that's what I'm talking about!! : ) Thank you so much!

I must say, you ladies have all answered the biggest part of my question: I am being a total jackass about all of this!  After a stroke and a heart episode, I should be grateful just to be alive!  You certainly don't represent 50, 60, 67, or 77 at all!  Interacting with you on here, you sound fabulous--I would have never guessed it!!  k8Memphis was right, you never get over it--you improve on it.  AMAZING.  All of you!! Ok, I'm going to buy something very special and post it.  I'm over baking any more cake for the year.  : )

I actually laughed out loud when I read tremnant's post because I'm sure that the year after my 39th birthday, I was suddenly 65!  Truly, it seems to happen that way.  As remant3333 says, enjoy your day.  Be happy.
