What have you discovered to be the most successful form of marketing when just starting out making desserts from home? I've been baking for a while now and have been told on numerous occasions that I needed to start charging and marketing myself. However, previously I had been so busy with my other job that I didn't want to feel like I was stuck working two jobs. Now that I have free time I am able to devote myself fulltime to doing what I really enjoy and was just wondering what others might have done when they got started. TIA
When one of my friends started her business, she targeted her fellow churchgoers and even she used to donate goodies once a month with her business card. She did this for different churches. Also her husband's office was a good starting point for her to get the word of mouth going.
I lot depends on where you live. I lived in a smallish town. I printed up flyers and took them to large office buildings, convelecent homes, beauty salons, banks, etc asking to be able to post in their break room. I also took finished samples for like Valentines day or other special times that were put there. Where I banked I got to know several of the tellers and offered to make a b'day cake (a single layer 6" round) for each employee and after several of those it led to orders. Maybe these suggestions will help.
