I am making a wedding cake and want to use all butter in the icing (no shortening). It will be a 3 tier stacked cake no extra decorations, extra piping or flowers, simply iced in a rustic style. How stable will the icing/cake be? Has anyone used all butter for icing on a wedding cake? Any suggestions or advice if you have?

I have used all butter in American buttercream on a wedding cake with no problem.

If  wedding is in cold weather months then it should be fine. When temperature is 90 degrees plus and it is outside then the frosting should have at least been made with part shortening in order to be stable. Not sure how SMBC holds up in hot weather as I have never made it before but I do have a recipe that I am going to try it soon.

So first question would be what date will wedding be? Also will it be outside if in hot weather? Once the experts here know that,  I am sure they will be able to tell you the right kind of buttercream to use. I love piping buttercream flowers. Please post picture of your cake. I am sure it will be beautiful!!!
