My soon to be 4 year old is obsessed with trains and wants a train birthday. I bought a train silicon mold but now that I'm thinking about it, how in the heck do I decorate and keep the intricate details? I want it to be colorful and to look like a train. Everything I find is keeping them plain and adding a strip of colored frosting to accent or a star tip which I don't personally like. Any ideas or past work?

Not my cake, but I made one very similar recently - don't know what I did with the picture.  Simple fondant cutouts on SMBC.   It was well received by the members of a 4-yr-old's birthday party.

Not sure if this idea appeals to you but when I googled 'cake train carriages' it came up and I thought it was super cute :-) [postimage id="7741" thumb="900"]
