I was inspired by your post kate and made a pumpkin pie, I think I can safely say that tradition will be staying in America, haha, must be an acquired taste, one that I simply do not have.

I think it is one of the most horrible things I have ever eaten lol and will not be supporting the pumpkin craze any further..... ick lol

bubsfirst bday -- too funny! you made me laugh -- i don't like them either hahahahaha

now something like a sweet potato pie or casserole is pretty good but still it's a meal in itself it's so hearty -- actually i've been making a sweet potato frittata -- it's just a couple  carmelized onions, a couple cubed roasted sweet potatoes, six eggs beaten with a dollop of sour cream -- bake -- but it's a meal for me --

yeah i don't get the charm of pumpkin either -- high five

Haha don't think I am brave enough to try the sweet potato pie just yet.

Fritata's now...... they are another story, I just chuck in whatever we have with the eggs, so left over veg from the week, broccoli. tomato, sweet potato etc, cheese and milk and bang it in the oven.

My new bub is dairy/soy intolerant so no fritata's for me for now (it goes through the milk and makes him sick), no chocolate (unless you count the crappy excuse of dairy/soy free chocolate that I had the other day in my quest for milk chocolate ....... without any milk) :-(

Luckily (or unluckily) I found a dairy free recipe for pumpkin pie with 5 star review rate - crazy Americans trying to trick us Aussies with your funny food haha, probably not as bad as you would find vegemite though I guess ha.

I love pumpkin pie, the traditional recipe. But my fav is my Mom's pumpkin chiffon pie. So light and airy. Unfortunately, my family preference is the old style. Boo Hoo

I think pumpkin pie is an aquired taste, at least it was for me.  First I made it for my father, then my first husband, now my "real" husband, who all loved it.  Over the course of more than 50 years, I too have come to love a good, spicy pumpkin pie.

Not much is better than pumpkin pie w/whipped cream.   You Aussies don't know what's good! LOL  Sweet potato pie comes in tied or 2nd w/pumpkin.  Really like those sweet potatoes any way they're fixed.  I often have them for bkfst w/my over-easy egg.

Haha, any nation that eats vegemite by the jar must have good taste.... right?

I really like sweet potato too but I think it will be staying firmly on my dinner plate and out of my pie crust haha one wasted pie crust is more than enough for now.

i've had tons of sweet potato casserole but i mentioned sweet potato pie in homage to patti labelle

https://cookpad.com/us/recipes/364539-patti-labelle-famous-sweet-potato-pie

otherwise i'm with you bubsfirst, don't wanna waste the pie crust hahahaha

i would eat pumpkin pie as a meal replacement if i liked pumpkin pie but since i don't.... it's so dang heavy -- ugh --

no hey i even tried ina garten's, the  barefoot contessa's, pumpkin pie thingy one year -- i can't find the recipe now it was a twist on pp -- it was tooth ache sweet and didn't work for me at all -- i'm done --

but i love a great sweet potato casserole with marshmallows on top or crushed up corn flakes & pecans -- i like sp just baked with a little olive oil or butter -- they are ridiculous roasted in the oven and don't be afraid to let them blacken a bit because they're not burnt -- they are sweet sweet sweet in a good way by that roastedness -- mmmm

Ohhhhh my goodness Sandra

Vegimite/Marmite is absolutely NOT appealing. There both the same Vegimite is Australian, Marmite is UK.

Marmite is made from yeast extract, a by-product of beer brewing...yuk. The British version of the product is a sticky, dark brown food paste with a distinctive, powerful flavour, which is extremely salty.

I can guarantee Sandra that you would find the taste disgusting, that's if you can get over the smell once you open the jar.

Imagine fermented yeast..sitting for days, then eating it..yup, a real treat...

[postimage id="7929" thumb="900"]

Our vegemite is black, it was originally created in a town called waterloo which is just around the corner from my hubby's parents place.

It's hard to describe vegemite, it doesn't really compare to anything accurately, very sharp, strong taste. Personally I would usually eat it mixed with butter or nuttelex on a piece of bread.
