What about a diner theme? Also, when I think of the fifties, I think of poodle skirts, '57 Chevy, I Love Lucy, The Dick Van Dyck Show, Elvis, Pinball machines (or was that more the 60's), Sock Hops and black leather jackets...

That's all I think of because I wasn't born until the late 60's.

I was going to mention that Wilton has this great diner cake I've seen in one of the yearbooks, but I have seen your pictures, especially your contest entry. It is amazing and you don't probably need any help in that department. Best of Luck.

I would probably find a good picture of a 50's type theme and do a FBT myself. But then, I'm kind of partial to the transfer technique.

gdixon.....thanks so much for the compliments....what I need help with is getting a picture of the cake in my head and then I'm set! For some reason I couldn't think of stuff from the 50's except for that darn jukebox and poodle skirt......but the cake is for a guy.......(I was also born in the 60's)

I LOVE the leather jacket idea!!!! and the diner idea is a good one.

Maybe I could sculpt a leather jacket and write something on the back of it like they used to.

Thanks so much!

Oh, it was actually a malt shop cake in last year's yearbook. It was pretty cool. Let me know if you want me to email it to you.

gdixon......thanks and don't stop....those are great ideas!!!!!

meandmine....thanks to you too. I used to use royal icing for the letters but it takes to long to dry and it's a pain in the neck when they break.....so then I decided to use fondant. I roll it up into a long fat noodle and shape them into the words...they dry overnight and hardly ever break. Then I paint them. I like painting afterwards but you could always color the fondant beforehand if you wanted to. Thanks again!

Here is a neat 50s cake, I think one similar to it or using some of the elements would look great and work for a man. After seeing your cake photos I know you could pull off something like this.

Freddie....that is EXACTLY what I wanted! I had it pictured in my head...black & white and all! I already started collecting some 50's photos online...but this makes it so much easier for me.....

Thanks again...I'll be sure to post photos when it's done!
