Hi,

I've been asked to make a cake for a 6th birthday.

It'll be two tiers made of two 9inch cakes....i'm not sure weather to use chocolate ganche or chocolate buttercream.

so i want to fondant a 12inch board (a different colour to my cake) and also the two tier cake how much fondant will i need for this?

I've seen stuff saying 800g for the board and 1kg for the cake but they don't state if its 2 tier cake or a singe cake.

Also how fair ahead can i ice my board with fondant? (cake is for the 1st april)

Can anyone help me with this or is what i've seen right?

Cheers

When you say tiers do you mean layers? will it be a 9" cake made with 2 layers of cake or 2 tiers made with 4 layers of cake.

I have always used buttercream , but most posters on CC prefer ganache as it gets much harder than buttercream and easier to cover with fondant. 1 kg sounds about right for a 9 " cake. You could cover your board with fondant a few days before you need ,but be sure to cover it with something to keep it dust free.
