Hi everyone,
Just one cake this week. Harry Potter themed. Unfortunately it's really hot here right now...and humid...so working this cake was quite a challenge since the fondant didn't want to tighten up. But the recipient was thrilled so what more can you ask? It's pumpkin spice cake inside.
Hope everyone had a great week...it's been a very challenging one for me.

@catlharper Sorry you have had a challenging week. I think your cake has a little character. Glad the recipient liked it and that is all that matters.
I really debate sometimes about posting my cakes because I see such great work and mine looks amateur most of the time. This one is a great example. My niece wanted one that was camouflage and had her sisters name on it, her sister is serving in Korea right now. I think this was a way to have her be a part of her birthday. I sent the picture to her sister and she loved it so I am sure the birthday girl will. I think it could be on cake wrecks.

@catlharper I feel like I am the only person in the world who has never watched a Harry Potter movie so I don,t know what butterbeer is all abut but I still think your cake looks good :-)
@Marian64 you are too hard on yourself! I find people very hard to draw let alone try to make from cake. You did a great job and I'm sure your niece will love it!
I made two 6" cakes for today, another slutty brownie cake (I need to find a new name for that cake) and a banana choco hazelnut cake. They were surprise cakes for two people at pottery. Terry, the class instructor, had her birthday last Thurs. and my friend Scott has his birthday coming up on the 14th.
Every now and then I bring cakes to class with me to deliver after class so they thought nothing of these two this morning. It was fun to watch them oooh and awww over them and then to see their expressions when I said they were for them :-) Terry actually jumped up and down and Scott gave me a huge hug and said it was the best birthday cake he'd ever gotten :-) I love getting those reactions.
I really like these two recipes, they are simple'ish but taste so yummy and are fun to decorate since they don't need to be exact.
Looking forward to seeing more creations.....

150 brownie petit fours. I am so lame at counting! I had to add more 4 times. It wasn't until I divied them up into boxes of 30 I could see exactly how many I was short...

No you're not! I didn't even know what butter beer is LOL. Great cake @catlharper and sorry you had a bad weekend. I'm also exhausted as there is just too much going on right now!

I second that @Marian64 . What an awesome cake! I normally shy away from making faces/ people and you did a great job!
@kstevens your cake look scrumptious! Can you surprise me too with a cake pleeease...hahahaha....
@Pastrybaglady OMG. I have a hate love relationship with petit fours. They are so fiddly and if done right - like yours - so adorable. Well done! Am sure nobody counted them anyway (except you) as they went straight down as soon as they were served I bet.
I just came home from my youngest friend's birthday party. Made him a pirate cake for his pirate party. He loves captain hook so I make a little figurine with the crocodile waiting in the water...
@kstevens thank you for your kind words and yes shoe loved the cake. Although she said I was a little skimpy on the frosting. She loves buttercream and would eat by the spoonful if we would let her. I am with Julia if you ever want to make me a surprise cake I would be honored.
@julia1812 Incredible job! Such clean work and the alligator has so much personality, love it!
I've done just enough petit fours to know they are ridiculously difficult to execute well - for me, anyway. That's why I chose the sphere shape. It's all those nasty corners and edges that make square petit fours a nightmare. These were a breeze to cover. The main drawback with these it that I had to keep washing and regreasing the pan 10 times!
@Pastrybaglady your petit fours look delicious! They are something I have yet to do.
@julia1812 WOW!! Not sure what else to say about your cake. Fabulous modeling!
@dolce67 Your cakes look great! Love that shade of blue.
@Marian64 and @julia1812 if you're ever in my neck of the woods I'd happily make you a cake :-)
Love the petit fours, they look so delish!
That pirate cake is awesome too - love it!
I had another oil painting effect cake for this week, topped with fresh edible organic flowers and some handmade crystallised ginger dipped in dark choc.

@dolce67 I kept looking back and forth between the cake looking for a smash cake lol. Way too pretty to be smashed!!!
@me_me1 I looove that cake! Whenever I have time (which is not very often) I paint with oil so this is a cake right up my alley :) It looks so elegant and what and nice idea to top it with edible flowers...
@julia1812 Thanks very much :)
Seems like the fresh edible flower thing is very popular in Aus right now, I get heaps of requests for them at the moment. Not just a pretty fresh flower topper or posy, but specifically organic edible flowers that are grown without the use of sprays etc. Very trendy at the moment.
