I am seeking some assistance with my buttercream frosting. After I frost/decorate, the frosting looks like it's shiny, almost wet? I did some research and it seems that it might have something to do with the shortening? I use the Wilton Buttercream shortening recipe which calls for Crisco, but apparently since Crisco removed the trans fats, it has effected the way the buttercream holds up. Can anyone offer any advice, or tips on how to handle this situation? I can't find shortening anywhere that DOES have the trans fats. THANK YOU!!!

It i s possible the Crisco is contributing to your problem however I use it and don't have shiny icing......maybe because I use 1/2 butter/ 1/2 Crisco.  It also sound like you are using too much liquid to thin the icing.

Have you tried a different recipe?  I suggest you would have better luck using something like this:  http://www.cakecentral.com/recipe/22469/2-icing
